CAN GIO MANGROVE FOREST

Can Gio Biosphere Reserve is a wetland located 40km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve with primeval forests and abundant floral cover. Can Gio stretches from the ocean to the edge of Ho Chi Minh City, covering some forty thousand hectares of diverse habitats including mangroves, palm-fringed islands, steamy jungle, wetlands, and salt marsh. The region boasts astonishing biodiversity and supports one of the most important ecosystems in Vietnam. It is the vibrant jungle that attracts visitors, and nature and wildlife enthusiasts will love this beautiful corner of southern Vietnam.
Visit Can Gio Mangrove Forest by speedboat is a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of Saigon, ideal for reconnecting with nature, relaxed exploration and wildlife-spotting. The tour is more valuable when you have a chance to meet the friendly local forest guards who live in the untouched remote area at Can Gio Mangrove Forest to take care of the forest, protect from deforestation, combat poaching and manage wildfires. You will witness and get a deep insight about their local daily life related to how they can live in such a difficult condition, how they can light up their house at night by self-created solar battery charger, how they collect rainwater for drinking and cooking, how they make a living by aquaculture such as sea oyster and shrimp in a small lake and so on.
07:30 Pick you up at the hotel lobby and then transfer you to Cau Mong pier by car or minivan.
08:00 Embark on a luxury speedboat heading towards Can Gio Mangrove Forest and it takes us around two hours to get there. When sitting on board, a light breakfast of chicken bread, fresh tropical fruits and mineral water are served. On the way, you will enjoy the fresh air and observe the pure beautiful landscape. In the meantime, our guide will explain about the daily rural life of local people living along the riverbanks.
08:45 Visit a riverside village with a short walk around the village paths to understand more about rural life and then visit a local market. A great photo opportunity!
09:20 Keep heading to Can Gio and witness the gradual transformation of plants from fresh water to brackish water.
10:20 Arrive and visit a typical mangrove forest guard family to understand about their daily life as well as the supportive policies from the government to encourage them to stay there and keep protecting and growing the Mangrove Forest.
Moreover, you will have chance to see first-hand how to catch fish in the lake with a very simple fishing-nets while staying in a skinny sampan and you can even try yourself to open the hatch of the lake by manpower to trap shrimps and fishes.
Afterwards, take a soft walk into the mangrove jungle to explore the protection area and learn about the hardness in forest cultivation and protection from the very beginning time until now.
12:00 Enjoy a warm local Vietnamese lunch prepared by the family and even you can grill by yourself the fresh sea oyster, shrimp and fish just caught from the lake.
13:00 Say goodbye to the family and start departing to Vam Sat Eco Park.
13:30 Arrive in Vam Sat Eco Park and take a walk to a crocodile lake to watch crocodiles and even try fishing crocodiles in the water, and spot the wild monkeys that occasionally appear at the edge of the forest. Then, head to the nearby natural bird reserve where you can climb a bird watchtower to spot thousands of birds and catch rare glimpses of exotic birds nesting. Furthermore, you can try to challenge yourself with a suspension bridge and visit the deer herd to feed them.
14:30 Say goodbye to Can Gio and return to Saigon.
16:30 Arrive back to Tan Cang pier be dropped off at your hotel.
